★ The experience
Two legends by day, a casino by night, and a forecaddie most buddy trips never get.
Most golf trips make you choose: the golf trip or the guys' trip. French Lick refuses the question.
“A forecaddie on the Dye, table games after dark, and nobody has to drive anywhere all weekend.”
Mornings belong to two courses that have no business sharing a property. The Donald Ross is 1917 golf with modern teeth, greens that punish the bold and the timid alike. The Pete Dye is the spectacle: ridgeline views for miles, blind shots, volcano bunkers, and a forecaddie walking with your group the whole way, reading lines and rescuing balls. That's a caddie experience most crews have never had, included because the course requires it and we'd include it anyway.
Then the sun goes down and the property turns into the other trip: a casino bigger than most clubhouses, six lanes at Pluto's Alley for grudge matches, a spa built on mineral springs people have traveled to for a century, and the West Baden atrium a free trolley ride away, which is worth the ride just to stand under.
Nobody drives anywhere. Nobody plans anything. The valley handles it.
Moments you’ll lie about
The Dye's ridgeline
Views for forty miles and a forecaddie telling you the line you'd never see.
The casino, night one

The atrium detour
West Baden's dome, a free trolley away. Go stand under it once.
★ Day by day
THE RUN OF SHOW
Two legends on one property: a 1917 Donald Ross and a Pete Dye masterpiece, with a forecaddie on the Dye and a casino for the nights. Golf mornings, table games after dark.
- Day 01
Arrival and the first hand
Roll into the valley, check in at the historic French Lick Springs Hotel, and let the casino handle night one. Fifty-one thousand square feet of opening ceremonies.
- Day 02
The Ross
The 1917 Donald Ross course, host of a PGA Championship back when hickory was standard issue. Classic golf, wicked greens, and the first column of the week's ledger.
- Day 03
The Dye
The main event. A forecaddie walks every group on the Pete Dye Course, reads the blind shots, and finds balls you'd have written off. Some of the most dramatic public golf in the country, then bowling at Pluto's Alley to settle the day's debts.
- Day 04
The replay and the reckoning
Same-day replay for whoever wants revenge, the mineral-bath spa for whoever doesn't, and the trip's final tally on the drive out of the valley.

Twelve guys, five rounds, zero logistics arguments. I just forwarded the link to the chat and showed up. Best man duties: completed.

They got us on the Stadium Course AND got us home from Old Town every night. Both miracles, honestly.

I've planned our annual trip for nine years. Fore The Boys did it better in one email thread. I have been honorably discharged.
